Gilber Souza

The Lord took you to early Rippy.  But we know you’ll be roping every day.  RIP Gilbert.  Saying you’ll be missed is an understatement.

Casey Kekiwi sharing horseback rides at Maui Special Rodeo 2010

Casey helping with horse rides. Maui Special Rodeo 2010.

Aloha, my name is Casey Kekiwi, and I am a 9th grade Honor student. I was recently interviewed and accepted to participate as a member of the People to People student Ambassador program to Australia this summer.

Objective:
The program promotes international understanding while building leadership skills among America’s youth. The 21-day experience includes meetings with government officials, interaction and cultural exchange while participating in educational activities, a home stay at a station (ranch), diving of the Great Barrier Reef, and earning a college credit while studying Wild Dolphins. I am honored to have been selected to be an Ambassador for the People to People program where they believe that if people from different cultures come together in peace and friendship, so eventually will countries.

Personally, I am looking forward to sharing my Hawaiian culture and broadening my perspective of the world. Coming from generations of Paniolos, Hawaiian cowboys, I am looking forward to my Home stay at the Australian ranch, to share and compare our lifestyles and how to continue to help our communities be sustainable. I am Scuba and open water certified so that I will be able to Dive at the Great Barrier Reef. I am interested in Oceanography and Environmental law, so I am grateful for this opportunity to work with the Wild dolphins program.

It has been a dream to study dolphins since I first swam with them when I was 6 years old. Due to the educational element, as an Ambassador, I will earn college credit to pursue my Oceanography and Environmental Law goals during my post High School continued education.

Fulfillment:
Upon my return to my home state of Hawaii, I plan to give a speech and share my journal, photographs and experiences with my program supporters. And I will continue to do service projects for our community while carrying on the message that that if people from different cultures come together in peace and friendship, so eventually will countries.

I know times are challenging but if you can help in any way to help to make my dream, to become a future Leader Among American Youths, come true in 2012, I will be eternally grateful.

Please visit my Ambassador page for more details and to learn how you can become a sponsor.  Thank you very much.
